Purse Full of Love

I planned a party.

He raised his hand forcing a blow to her already swollen face.  Angry fists.  Words yelled to intimidate and to hurt.

Cake…… cookies….. invitations…..

Her fear for her life drives her to a shelter….. scared children in tow. Behind the shelter walls safety and finding inner strength becomes the new norm.  Arriving with nothing but the bruises and scars, she fears she will have to return to the abuse.

Friends gather.  We fellowship. Laughter. Games. Fun filled evening.

Embrace. Give. Love. Serve.

I called the shelter’s director.  God has given us so much love, comfort and hope.  We want to share just a portion.  We have purses filled with love.  Love in packages in the shapes of shampoo, wallets, make-up, socks, gloves, and gum.  God’s promise of strength comes in those purses.

“You have planted much, but have harvested little.  You eat, but never have enough…. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” Haggai 1:6

God’s simple reminder that we sometimes get busy with our daily lives.  We are engrossed in the little things.  We forget to love our neighbors.  Although, justifiably busy, we sometimes neglect to spread God’s love and glory. By placing God in the middle of everything, we will find blessings galore.

The shelter’s director giggled.  She’s been swamped with so much.  ”The purse party sounded like fun.  They will bring a little sunshine in our shelter.  Please let the ladies know how much this means for us.”

No, the sunshine came from her…… Extending God’s love touched my fragile soul.

Embrace. Give. Love. Serve.

God bless……
