It has been said that when I was little I always had a crayon in my hand.  I drew pictures for everyone.  I remember as a youngster sitting for hours drawing and doodling.  In school, I would doodle to keep my mind focused on what was being lectured. My notes always looked like a cartoon around the margins.  It was a way to filter in information that needed to be learned.

I have always dabbled in art.  Beginning in the 7th grade I enrolled in an art class.  I loved it!  I remember bringing home some real masterpieces.  I framed most of my artwork.  It was how I expressed myself.  As I got into high school, I dropped art.  I don’t know why…yeah I do…it was because I needed to focus on all the academic classes to get into a college.  Looking back, I wish I had continued.  ((sigh))  If I had only known.

Now, I have enrolled in an art class through my local library.  Each month we get to work on a small project.  It has inspired me in so many ways.  I love painting, sketching, and learning techniques.  It has brought so much joy in my life.  I can not express this enough… I JUST LOVE IT!!  Plus, it is a free class!!  Yippie!!  I am able to express my suppressed talent!!  It feels good!  It is relaxing and it has plugged me back into the art world.

This picture was done for my husband as a Christmas gift.  It is a “New York” scene.  He has it in his office.

This ocean scene is done in watercolor.  It was my first attempt at a wave.  I was really pleased with how it turned out.

This is by far my favorite piece of work.  It was taken from a photograph of a grave marker.  I have reproduced this one for several family members.  I have really enjoyed this one!!

I wish I had more hours in the day to do more.  I will be taking advantage of the free class as long as it is offered.  Perhaps I will be the next Grandma Moses!!
