It is as Simple as….
I realized that my relationship with God is good…. it’s solid…. but not constant. I know…. I know… some of you out there are thinking…. “Wait, you are very involved in church and you never miss.” Please let me elaborate……
James 1:22-25 says:
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he as heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.
If I do what God has instructed me in His word, Bible, I will be blessed with a very close and personal relationship. And through this close and personal relationship, I will be set free from any “bondage” [my eating, my troubled relationships.... you get the point]. God’s truth that he reveals within the pages of his word, is greater than anything that may be troubling me or holding me back.
The man who briefly looks in the mirror….. that has been me for a few months now. I go to church, lead a class, and make sure my kids are involved. BUT that is it….. I am listening but not intently doing. If I would just make time each and every day to study…. like I have been for this study….. my relationship with God will become a constant. Then and only then will my bondage be released….. because they won’t matter anymore!! God will be the constant reminder and the comfort I will only need.
It is as simple as sitting down and reading….. God’s word.
