Declutter Discovery!!

Whew!! Thought I would take a break!! Remember my challenge to declutter?? Remember my theory that if you declutter and keep an organized home you can save money?? Well………

Today, I was doing a routine pick up in my kitchen. I was doing the dishes and discovered that the plastic container drawer was packed, disorganized and a total mess. My adventure was going to be a quick one…. HA! So I thought….. Well, it began with looking for the drawer liner. I know I had purchased some not long ago on clearance of course. I remembered seeing the liner on the top shelf of my pantry. I quickly grabbed the step stool and climbed up into Never-go-there-land. Oy! What did I find???? Yet another mess.

After an hour of cleaning the top shelf, I had enough room to put the platters I never can find on the bottom shelf in their new spot. Going to the Never-Go-Down-There-Land, landed me into an abyss of platters, an old bread machine, and lots of odds and ends. Well, if I just cleaned off that shelf I could have enough room for the lunch boxes, roasting pan and the crock pot. So, another hour spent rearranging and finding new homes for those odd and ends. Which led me to a brilliant idea!! What if I use the deep pantry space to house the cookware? I could put the dry goods in the cookware cabinet which is closer to the cooking area anyway. Made sense, right??? Another hour spent and the kitchen looks like it has thrown up on itself!!

Well, in the process guess what I discovered?? Six bags of beans, 4 hot chocolate mix cans, long lost dishes, and 8 peanut butter jars (empty)……… Oh heavens!!! The number of plastic forks, spoons and paper bags is unimaginable. But here’s the beauty of it all…the cabinet space for food is smaller. Can’t purchase a whole lot before it is cramped packed, so, I won’t be spending as much in dry goods!!

Well, at least we will have beans to donate to the local food pantry!!
