Cleaning Projects

Okay, I have been Nancy Drew for the past month or so….. I can already tell you that I have depleated my store bought cleaning supplies except for Windex and have began to introduce the “homemade” equivalents.  Oh, my, have my eyes been open!!

I have been cleaning with an all purpose cleaner for two weeks and really haven’t noticed any differences between the store bought except perhaps the store bought smell is stronger.  Other than that… my house is clean!!  I have been using vinegar to mop the floors and GREAT results have been happening!!  I have been using vinegar also in my dishwasher as a Jet Dry substitute.  No water spots!!  I’m sold!!

Today, I will have washed clothes in my homemade laundry detergent.  Ah, it takes one tablespoon per load!!  I start tonight using the dishwasher detergent I made this morning!!  Will let you know the results!!

Okay, now you want to know the cost difference.  For a box of laundry soap, dishwasher detergent, and all purpose cleaner, I would normally spend around $10.  I purchased a box of baking soda (BIG box), Borax, a jug of vinegar and oxy clean (couldn’t find washing soap) and paid approximately the same thing.  But, it takes less of the homemade products to do the laundry and dishwasher.  So you come out ahead using the homemade products.  I could drive my cost down if I could find washing soda instead of using oxy clean.  It costs about half.  And I still have a ton of the borax, baking soda and vinegar

I will continue to update you on the windex and oh, I am going to try to make my own carpet freshener!!  I know baking soda does the trick but I like the fragrances!
